OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE: AN INTRODUCTION

by G.W. Fisler

There seems to be as many theories on the out of body experience as there are researchers.  Some even claim it is a fabrication of the mind.  Fortunately, this theory does not explain several key facts, namely:
  1. 1.  The positive results of scientific experiments on OBE's
  2. 2.  Witnesses sighting an apparition of the person projecting
  3. 3.  Information obtained during an OBE that would not be available to them by and other means
It is sufficient to state that the out of body experience is a real experience, although sometimes it transcends the physical world that we know.

For the following essays we will describe the out of body experience as the projection of a person's awareness or consciousness to points outside the body and is not dependent on the five senses for collection of information.

We will leave the theories to those more inclined to search for the cause of something instead of exploring the boundaries of the experience itself.  The following essays will research the "nuts and bolts" of inducing an OBE with the minimum amount of theory necessary for comprehension.

A few definitions will be needed to simplify understanding of the following instructions.  Astral Projection is a term that is routinely interchanged with the out of body experience.  They are not the same!  OBE is a broad classification that may be divided into (for this discussion) two classifications:

  • Etheric Projection - projection of the consciousness into the mundane world; the world we see around us.
  • Astral Projection - projection of the consciousness into other planes of existence.
To succeed at the projection techniques discussed here, the progressive muscle relaxation exercises must be performed competently.  The exercises discussed in the psychic development section are the foundations of most paranormal abilities including astral or etheric projection.  If you have not done so, please go to the PSYCHIC DEVELOPMENT section and read the material.  If you are confident in performing these exercises then continue.
